A number of local athletes have earned statewide honors for their play in baseball and softball this spring.

Petaluma High’s Joelle Krist, The Press Democrat’s Large School Player of the Year in softball as well as the Large School Athlete of the Year, was named to the CBS MaxPreps California Medium Schools All-State Softball Team as a first-team selection.

Five local athletes were named to the MaxPreps all-state small schools baseball team: Sonoma Academy’s Dylan De La Montanya, Cloverdale’s Chris Harms, Clear Lake’s Cole Brodnansky, and two athletes from St. Vincent: Dominic Petersen and George Sammon.

Krist, a multi-sport standout who is headed to the University of Arizona to play softball, hit .529 in the spring, knocked in 46 runs and hit six home runs. She led the Sonoma County League in all categories. The Trojans won the league pennant.

In the small schools baseball category, pitcher De La Montanya was named to the all-state first team. The Sonoma Academy junior led the NCL II in strikeouts (128) and wins (11). He tied for first for ERA (1.45).

He was a first-team All-Empire pick by The Press Democrat.

Cloverdale’s Harms was named to the all-state second team. Harms, a junior, was second in the NCL I in wins (9) and third in strikeouts (76). Harms was a first-team All-Empire pick.

Two-time All-Empire Player of the Year, Clear Lake’s Brodnansky, was selected to the all-state second team as catcher. Brodnansky led the NCL I in batting average (.465), RBI (37) and home runs (4).

St. Vincent junior Dominic Pederson, an All-Empire first team pick, was named to the state second team as catcher. Pedersen led the NCL II in slugging percentage (.929) and RBI (40). St. Vincent won the NCL II. Mustangs teammate senior George Sammon was also named to the second team, as an infielder.

Sammon, an All-Empire first-team pick, led the league in runs (41) and stolen bases (37).

Maria Carrillo grad Clayton Andrews and Petaluma grad Austin Gabbert were named to the first and second teams, respectively, in the medium-school baseball category earlier this week.
