A 25-year-old Petaluma man suffered major leg injuries early Saturday when his car slammed into a house in the Moorland Avenue neighborhood just south of Santa Rosa, according the CHP.

The man, whose name has not been released, appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed east on Gio Drive shortly after 3 a.m., CHP Sgt. Blair Hardcastle said.

The driver went through the intersection at Newmark Drive, where Gio Drive ends, and into a residence, striking a parked Toyota Tundra pickup in the driveway, Hardcastle said.

The Tundra went through the garage door and rammed into a hot water heater, which crashed through a wall and into a bedroom where one resident was sleeping, Hardcastle said.

The resident did not suffer injuries, but the driver had to be freed by firefighters from his car, a 2016 Dodge Charger owned by a family member, he said.

The driver was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he remained Saturday night, Hardcastle said. The family at the residence was forced to leave the home given the damage to the structure.
