Wednesday, June 1

7:43 p.m. - A husband and wife were able to flee their Petaluma mobile home on the evening of June 1 as an electrical problem grew to a full-blown fire.

Fire was burning on an outside wall of the home as an engine and crew from the Petaluma Fire Department arrived at the Sandalwood Mobile Home Park, 11 Oakwood Drive, around 7:43 p.m., according to a department news release. An engine that normally would have been the closest to the fire was already out with two Petaluma ambulances on another call at the time.

Firefighters attacked the fire and brought it under control in approximately 20 minutes. The male resident was transported to a hospital due to complaints of smoke-related breathing issues, but no other injuries were reported.

An inspector found the cause to be an electrical problem under the home, near an electrical panel. Damage was estimated at $15,000 to the structure at $5,000 to the contents.
