CHP officers early Monday arrested a Novato man suspected of being drunk when he flipped his Jeep off of Highway 101 in southern Petaluma.

The man had been driving on the highway near Kastania Road when he apparently lost control. Officers were called at 3:05 a.m. and found an unoccupied Jeep on its roof on an off-ramp with several open beer bottles inside, according to the CHP.

A witness told officers they’d seen the suspected driver walking north, away from the crash, and guided officers to the Kastania road overcrossing, where they found a man passed out on the ground, the CHP said.

Driver Adam Begay, 24, was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital with minor injuries. Officers don’t believe he was wearing his seat belt. Begay also was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and taken to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked on two misdemeanor DUI charges. His bail was set at $10,000, according to jail records.
