Responding to a reported car crash early Sunday, police arrested two men whose car was allegedly found to contain drugs packaged for sale, a variety of weapons and burglary tools, according to an announcement from the Petaluma Police Department.

Officers arrested 40-year-old Keith Driver and 22-year-old David Turner, both residents of Stockton, shortly after 5 a.m. on Sept. 11. Police said they had received report of a possible car crash on the 2200 block of Pineview Way that morning, and soon located the reported vehicle, containing both Driver and Turner, parked nearby.

After discovering that Driver was on active probation and subject to search and seizure, a search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a loaded, short-barreled shotgun with a destroyed serial number behind the driver’s seat, along with methamphetamine packaged for sale, burglary tools and billy clubs elsewhere in the vehicle.

Both men were arrested on charges of possessing a controlled substance while armed, possession of a short-barrelled shotgun, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a loaded firearm in public, possession of a firearm without a serial number, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a billy club and possession of burglary tools. Police said they also charged Driver with violation of probation.

Both men were booked into Sonoma County jail.
