The Petaluma Fire Department recorded 40 medical calls and 91 emergency calls during the week of Sept. 14 through Sept 20.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 18

7:25 a.m. - Petaluma firefighters arrived to the scene of a reported fire at a three-story apartment building located at 321 1st Street to find smoke billowing out from a second-story balcony. Firefighters ascended to the balcony by way of a ladder truck, and found the fire to be confined to an exterior clothes dryer machine and controlled by a fire sprinkler system. Firefighters removed burned debris and disconected power, finding that the fire had not extended beyond the machine. Water was removed from the apartment and the unit below. The cause appeared to be a malfunction in the machine.
