A 69-year-old Vallejo man who may have suffered a “medical emergency” died Thursday night as his car crashed along Lakeville Highway in east Petaluma, police said Friday.

The man was unresponsive and not breathing when officers and firefighters found him about 10:50 p.m. on Lakeville at Pine View Way, according to a Petaluma Police press release. His Toyota Camry had struck a tree along the highway.

The man couldn’t be revived with CPR, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of family.

“The initial investigation suggests the driver may have had a medical emergency which caused him to drive off the roadway and collide with a tree,” the press release stated. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
