Fire calls

The Petaluma Fire Department recorded 81 calls during the week of Nov. 21 through Nov. 27.

Monday, Nov. 21

6:48 a.m.: Flames were engulfing a garage at 1563 Cerro Sonoma road when firefighters arrived at the scene, with fire funneling from broken windows across the upper portion of the roll-up garage door and a side door. With two cars parked in the driveway, responders pulled a line to start limiting exposure of surrounding areas while starting to tamp down the blaze. The fire had extended through the living space and was exiting the front door as firefighters made entry. Firefighters worked their way through the house, knocking down the fire in the living room and the kitchen.

Both residents were outside the home at the time of the fire, and one was in the backyard with the family dog. The residents declined housing help from the Red Cross, telling responders they had family in the area. The Petaluma Fire Department estimated that most of the value of the home and its contents was destroyed in the incident, with damage valued at around $650,000.

Saturday, Nov. 26

12:59 p.m.: A possible oven fire was reported at 1733 Skillman Lane. Responders determined that, most likely, an electrical issue under the oven was causing charring to the wood cabinet under the unit. Responders advised the occupants to replace the oven after disconnecting the appliance.
