FIRE CALLS

The Petaluma Fire Department recorded 135 calls during the week of Dec. 12 through Dec. 18.

Sunday, Dec. 18

1:11 p.m.: Petaluma fire officials and other agencies responded to a reported garage fire at a 1240 Kresky Way home. When personnel arrived, they found a resident spraying a hose on a vehicle that was ablaze in the driveway, with some smoke inside the home, Fire Captain Chad Costa said. The three adults, two children and one dog that lived in the house were evacuated, and personnel knocked down the flames within 10 minutes of their arrival. It was determined that a resident had attempted to start the car in the garage when a fire broke out in the engine compartment, though the exact cause of the fire is unknown, Costa said. Residents pushed the car into the driveway before flames spread to the home, though smoke seeped inside through a garage door. Damage caused by the fire is estimated at $3,000. There were no reported injuries. After the blaze was knocked out, firefighters remained at the scene and went over fire safety tips for the two children, he said.
