Police are seeking a man they believe stole a mountain bike from outside of a downtown Petaluma business early Monday.

The men’s bike, valued at about $1,500, was reported missing about 2:25 a.m., according to a news release from the Petaluma Police Department.

The victim told police that he’d locked the bike to a tree in front of a business on the 100 block of Petaluma Boulevard North around midnight, but it was gone when he returned. A security camera from a nearby business captured footage that appeared to show the suspect cutting the lock, police said.

The suspect is described as a male adult, 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing around 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark jacket, a hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, police said.

Police said the missing bike is a black Cannondale 28-speed mountain bike with a single front fork shock and a black milk crate on the back.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Officer N. Raccanello at (707) 781-1263.
