Several Petaluma roads were closed Sunday morning due to flooding, the Petaluma Police Department said in an advisory.
The following is a list of closed roadways as of 9 a.m. Sunday:
Stony Point Roadway is closed from Petaluma Boulevard North to Pepper Road.
North McDowell Boulevard is closed from Corona Road to Old Redwood Highway.
The 3400 block of Petaluma Boulevard North has be reduced to one lane of traffic.
High Tide was at 8:47 a.m. and further contributed to areas of localized flooding along the Petaluma River, the police said.
The Petaluma Police Department is advising all drivers to take extra precautions when traveling on the roadways. In the event that drivers encounter standing water on the roadway they are advised to not attempt to drive through the water as many times the standing water is much deeper than it appears.
Residents are encouraged to notify the Petaluma Police Department at 707-778-4372 to report additional areas of flooding or standing water.
A potent winter storm packing strong winds and heavy rain arrived Saturday on the North Coast, swelling creeks with steady runoff during the day before the system was expected to intensify overnight, ushering in the season’s biggest deluge, one that forecasters said is likely to push Sonoma County rivers and streams over their banks by Monday.
