Sonoma County schools score high in national ranking

Several Sonoma County schools received an ‘A’ rating on Niche.com, a new website that combines demographic and crime data with school test scores.|

Considering moving somewhere new? Want to make sure that the town has a great school system? Niche.com combines public datasets with user reviews to rate every K-12 school, college, and neighborhood in the U.S.

The website uses a broad range of publicly available data. Neighborhood analysis looks at U.S. Census Bureau data, FBI Crime Reports, and Niche user reviews.

For education some of the sources include U.S. Department of Education graduation rates, state school test scores, and parent reviews.

Several categories were given individual scores and averaged to give each school an overall grade. The divisions included academics, diversity, teachers, college readiness, clubs & activities, health & safety, administration, sports, food, resources and facilities.

24 of Sonoma County’s 200 plus public and private schools received a Niche grade of A- or above. Click through our gallery of some of the high achievers. Schools from Santa Rosa and Petaluma are on the list, but none from Sonoma Valley, which had many schools in the B range, and none from Cloverdale which ranked on the C level.
