Petaluma police are seeking the public’s help to track down a suspect in an armed robbery in the city’s core business district early Monday.

Around 2:04 a.m., an unidentified male victim was walking in the River Plaza parking lot on East Washington St. when a man approached him and demanded money, Petaluma police said in a news release.

The man pulled up his shirt to expose a black semi-automatic handgun tucked in his waistband. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the man fled on foot, police said.

He last seen walking behind businesses near the river while carrying a case of beer, according to police.

Officers in the area were unable to locate the suspect, who is described as a white or Hispanic man who is about 20 years old and was wearing a light colored shirt, brown pants, and a baseball hat.

Officers are attempting to locate surveillance video from the surrounding businesses. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Officer Espinoza at 778-4372.
