Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of attempting to stick up a Petaluma sandwich shop Wednesday afternoon.

Employees of Bianchini’s Sandwich & Salad Market told police that the suspect had spent about 30 to 45 minutes loitering in the store before he approached the counter around 4:15 p.m., pulled a gun from a reusable shopping bag and demanded money, police said in a news release.

The clerk ran from the counter to call 911 and the suspect fled the store without taking any cash, police said. It’s unclear how he left the area.

No one was injured during the failed heist at the 1367 North McDowell Blvd. deli, police said.

The suspect was described as a middle aged white man with a thin build wearing a beanie, aviator sunglasses, a green sweater vest and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts or identity is asked to contact Petaluma Police Department Detective Nick McGowan at 707-778-4456.
