Nestled at the base of Sonoma Mountain, offering unparalleled views of the surrounding folded green hills, Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma has long been known to golfers as one of the premier courses in Sonoma County.

But it is the company’s event center, a spacious three-room facility that has hosted nonprofit fundraisers for up to 250 guests, that has earned Rooster Run praise from the Petaluma community.

For almost 20 years, Rooster Run has offered Petaluma nonprofits discounted rates for fundraisers and special pricing on school and church events, according to Lane Lombardo-Morales, the restaurant general manager and food and beverage director.

For its efforts to help the community, Rooster Run has been selected as the Large Business of the Year. The company will be honored on April 20 at the Community Awards of Excellence at the Sheraton Petaluma Hotel.

Rooster Run has helped high school seniors with class projects and donated to the Boys and Girls Club, Lombardo-Morales wrote in a nomination form. Other nonprofits that have benefited from the club’s largess include Petaluma People Services Center, Petaluma Animal Services Foundation, and the Petaluma Valley Hospital volunteers.

The company also donates to the Lion’s Club Food Festival, which supports the annual high school Project Graduation event, and also donates to Kiwanis clubs and Rotary clubs. In addition, Rooster Run also donates food to the Committee on the Shelterless and hosts the annual holiday party for COTS Kids.

While seemingly every nonprofit in Petaluma has been hosted at the event center, the spectacular Rooster Run golf course has also played a role in charitable giving. Nonprofits receive discounted rates on charity tournaments, and local high school golf teams have free access to the course.
