Petaluma police early Friday arrested a suspected drunken driver who crashed into a median and fled on foot after she was spotted driving at speeds of up to 100 miles an hour, police said.

Around 2 a.m., a driver in a silver Volkswagen Passat passed an officer on northbound Highway 101 while traveling at an estimated 100 mph with no headlights on, police said in a news release.

Attempts to pull the driver over as the vehicle exited the highway at the East Washington Street off-ramp were unsuccessful. The driver continued to speed northbound on North McDowell Boulevard, out of sight of the officer, police said.

Other officers soon saw the Passat, with the headlights still off, approaching Old Redwood Highway at speeds of about 60 mph, police said. The driver lost control of the vehicle and careened into the center median after attempting to turn right onto Old Redwood Highway toward Penngrove.

After the crash, the driver, identified as 29-year-old Macy Keovilay of Novato, got out of the vehicle and ran toward an area business.

Keovilay was later located by officers, and a breath test showed her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, police said. She was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A 29-year-old male passenger, also of Novato, remained in the vehicle and complied with police. Neither party was injured, police said.
