A man under surveillance by the San Francisco Police Department was arrested Sunday evening after a vehicle pursuit into Sonoma County that ended in a collision with another car in Petaluma, the California Highway Patrol said.

The CHP was notified at 4:44 p.m. to pull over a vehicle traveling on Highway 101 that was possibly involved in a criminal activity under investigation by San Francisco officers, CHP Sgt. Jason Bahlman said Sunday night.

Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over as it exited onto Lakeville Street, but the driver sped away until rear-ending a stopped car at the intersection of East D Street, Bahlman said.

The suspect was arrested and later released to San Francisco officers, Bahlman said. The SFPD did not provide details of its investigation Sunday night or the suspect’s name.

Two women were inside the car struck by the suspect. They suffered minor injuries and were taken to Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center.
