Petaluma police arrested a Rohnert Park woman on suspicion of drunk driving after she was spotted Wednesday morning slowly cruising down Highway 101 in a car that was missing its passenger side tires, police said.

A witness saw a gray Nissan Altima traveling “very slowly” on its rims southbound on Highway 101 north of Petaluma, according to a news release from the department. Both vehicles exited the highway and pulled into the Chevron gas station at 4999 Petaluma Blvd. North, where the man called police around 6:15 a.m. after he smelled alcohol when attempting to offer the female driver help.

A preliminary alcohol test indicated that the driver, identified as 53-year-old Rohnert Park resident Lynn Mays, had a blood alcohol level of .217, well above the legal limit of .08, police said.

Mays, who was probation with a suspended license from an April 11 DUI conviction, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and violating probation.

Information about how the passenger’s side tires went missing was not immediately available.
