A string of suspicious fires along a major road south of Santa Rosa burned a barn on Sunday afternoon.

Almost a dozen spots were reported to have caught fire along Stony Point Road beginning around 4:45 p.m.

“It’s under investigation. It’s uncertain if it’s arson, or a mechanical issue with a vehicle,” said Santa Rosa Fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque.

He said a vehicle was destroyed and there was minor damage to a home.

The first fire was reported at 4280 Stony Point Road, between Scenic and Millbrae avenues.

The old barn was partially burned as fire spread from the road. A fence at the entrance to a residential area also burned,

A Cal Fire helicopter helped to attack the dry grass burning among buildings in several locations and also dropped off a hand crew. Rincon Valley firefighters assumed primary responsibility for handling the fire, but were not immediately available for comment.

The Santa Rosa fire department was among approximately 10 fire departments that responded.
