Petaluma?s Day of the Dead celebration continues through Nov. 2 with altars, music, dance, film, art, workshops, lectures and activities for all ages around town. The festivities conclude on Nov. 2 with a candlelight giant puppet procession beginning at 6 p.m. from Water Street to the new Petaluma Arts Center.
The traditional Latin Ameri-can holiday, which focuses on honoring deceased loved ones, has become a tradition in Petaluma for the past eight years, thanks to the efforts of the Petaluma Arts Council.
Here is a schedule of up-coming events.
Oct. 23: Artists? reception for ?Desfiles de Recuerdos/Parade of Memories,? 6 p.m. at the Mail Depot, 40 Fourth St.
Oct. 24: Poems of Remembrance: An Evening of Bilingual Poetry hosted by Terry Ehret is from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Petaluma Arts Center.
Oct. 25: Traditional sugar skull-making workshop, noon to 2 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church.
n La Rondalla of Petaluma performs traditional Mexican romantic music at 3 p.m. at the Petaluma Library, 100 Fairgrounds Drive.
n A reception for Peruvian retablo artist Claudio Jimenez Quispe is from 5-7 p.m. at the Petaluma Art Center.
Oct. 27: ?Remembering Frida Kahlo? with John Zarobell is at 7:30 p.m. at the Petaluma Art Center.
Oct. 30: Artists? reception for ?In Memory of and Love for Barbara Lisa Cooper? is at 5 p.m. at Aqus Caf?at Foundry Wharf, 189 H St.
Nov. 1: Bilingual story time for preschoolers is at 11 a.m. at the Petaluma Library.
n A lecture and demonstration with retablo artist Claudio Jimenez Quispe is from 1-3 p.m. at the Petaluma Arts Center.
n Traditional candlelight procession with giant puppets and mariachis begins at 6 p.m. from Water Street in front of 100 Petaluma Blvd. North and continues to the Petaluma Arts Center.
n Performance by the Ballet Folklorico Netzahualcoyotl and the Oakland Improv Collective, 7 p.m. at the Petaluma Arts Center.
Nov. 2: Sacred Circle Dance with Joan Rawles-Davis at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 6-8:30 p.m.
