Do you know a Petaluma service person who offers exemplary service? If so, we want to know about it.

Email a nomination to matt.brown@arguscourier.com or write us a letter to tell us why you think your nominee should be considered for the service person award. (No phone calls, please. All nominations must be in writing.)

Nominations can cover all aspects of the service industry, from cashiers and clerks to baristas and servers. We are looking for service people, so those not eligible for the contest include business owners, managers, directors or those in charge of departments. Previous Service Person of the Year honorees will not be considered for the contest.

Last year’s honoree was Donna Davison, who ran the front desk at Petaluma Valley Athletic Club. Previous recipients have been Jennifer Koreen, a barista at Java Hut; Jenny Long, a barista at Petaluma Coffee and Tea; Susie Betts, a greeter at the Petaluma Visitors Center; Carol Quan, a checker at Lucky Supermarket; Tony Coleiro, a postal carrier; Shawn Tulluck, a postal carrier; Nicole Watkins, a waitress at Pazzo; Franco Licata, head waiter at Cucina Paradiso; Shahida Patel, a cashier at Kmart; Cassie Ensminger, a coffee cart barista; Bette Jo Reich, a merchant teller at Wells Fargo; postal carrier Sean Lanham; David Larsen, a courtesy clerk at Albertson’s; Ruth Van Fleet of Safeway; and Marie Reis, a wine department supervisor at Albertson’s.

Five nominees will be named Service Person of the Week beginning in February. Then, starting in March, readers will vote on which one of those five should be crowned Service Person of the Year.

The winner will be honored at the 2018 Petaluma Community Awards of Excellence, co-sponsored by the Argus-Courier and the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, in late March.

The earlier a nomination is submitted, the greater chance a nominee has to become a Service Person of the Week. Mail written nominations to: Service Person of the Year, Petaluma Argus-Courier, P.O. Box 750308, Petaluma 94975, or drop them at the Argus-Courier, 719C Southpoint Blvd. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.
