An allegedly drug-addled driver was arrested Saturday morning after crashing into a parked car at the Petaluma Village Premium Outlets, police said.

At 11:18 a.m., Petaluma police responded to Petaluma Boulevard North at Magnolia Avenue to investigate reports of a potentially intoxicated driver, according to a news release from the agency.

While officers were on the way, the driver, later identified as 42-year-old Petaluma resident Scott Buchan, turned into the outlet mall and crashed into a parked car.

Buchan, who was found with his vehicle, showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests, police said. Officers found prescription medications and “numerous” empty nitrous oxide canisters – commonly known as “whippets.”

He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, violation of probation, driving with a suspended license, and possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
