Sonoma County welcomes winter temperatures

Cover your shrubs and bring in the potted plants because it’s going to be cold.|

Well, there’s good news and bad news for Sunday night and into Monday morning.

The good news is, if you’ve covered your succulents and citrus and geraniums and marigolds, throw another log on the fire and pour yourself another hot toddy.

The bad news? Sunday night will be the coldest of 2018 to date.

AccuWeather predicts a Santa Rosa low temperature of 24 degrees Sunday night and into Monday morning, cold enough to turn succulents to mush and take the life out of other tender plants.

Get some sheets, row covers, blankets, burlap shade cloth or newspapers to cover plants. Move potted plants to a protected spot. Hang lights on citrus trees.

If you’ve slung plastic over plants, remove it after the morning thaw.

AccuWeather says there will be sub-freezing overnight temperatures at least through Thursday morning, so wait to prune any damaged limbs.
