Empty wine bottles were scattered on Lakeville Highway south of Petaluma after a semitrailer truck ran off the road, prompting a detour during the Thursday morning commute, the CHP said.

The truck ran off the road and into a ditch, and the bottles it was carrying spilled as a tow truck tried to set the trailer back on its wheels, Officer Jon Sloat said.

The road was closed for about three hours as the bottles were picked up, and traffic was diverted onto Stage Gulch Road, he said.

The CHP is investigating the incident to determine whether speed was a factor, Sloat said.

The truck driver, who was not identified, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
