Petaluma police arrested a man at an eastside business Sunday morning, discovering he’d broken in through a third-floor balcony door and spent considerable time inside, stealing and vandalizing, according to police.

Justin Vandaveer, 36, remained in custody in the Sonoma County Jail Monday morning, suspected of felony burglary and vandalism, resisting arrest and possessing stolen property.

Vandaveer was arrested after officers were called to a closed Baywood Drive business about 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The front door was open and loud music was playing inside. Surveillance video showed a man getting inside from the upper balcony and then moving around inside the business.

The suspect had left the business before officers arrived. He was found nearby and fought with officers when taken into custody, police said. When arrested he had items taken from the business, according to police. Police officials didn’t disclose the name of the business or what was stolen.

Vandaveer was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
