SRJC hosts Native American celebration

No Day Under the Oaks, but plenty to celebrate at Santa Rosa Junior College.|

The popular Native American Spring Celebration will be held on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus in Santa Rosa on May 6 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event provides an opportunity for local tribes to share cultural practices and traditions with Sonoma County friends and families. Guests will be able to enjoy dance performances and cultural demonstrations, learn about local indigenous cultures at indigenous information booths and purchase food and art from vendors.

SRJC’s Day Under the Oaks, a community education fair and open house, was canceled this year. However, the Native American Celebration, as well as three additional events that are held each year in association with Day Under the Oaks, will be held on that day. Parking and entrance to all events are free.

The Fashion Studies department will be producing its annual fashion show at noon. It will take place in the Wilson & Ruth P. Craig Dining Commons on the first floor of the Lawrence A. Bertolini Student Center.

The Jesse Peter Multicultural Museum will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. It currently features a historical exhibit of the museum from the early 1930s to the present.

The SRJC horticulture students will hold a plant sale on May 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will present a variety of summer vegetables and ornamental plants for garden or patio. They will also have a great selection of succulents and houseplants. The plant sale will be held by the greenhouse, which is in Lark Hall on the Santa Rosa campus.
