County elections office issues warning on robocall over Proposition 6

Sonoma County elections officials have issued a warning about a misleading robocall that claims there is an error in the title for one of the propositions on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The call states an error exists in voting materials mailed by county elections offices regarding Proposition 6, said William Rousseau, the county registrar of voters.

Ballot titles are prepared by the Attorney General’s Office with no alterations by local officials, he said.

Proposition 6 would repeal new gas taxes and car registration fees passed by state lawmakers last year and require voter approval for future fuel tax and vehicle fee increases.

“They’re just trying to spread confusion,” Rousseau said, referring to the robocall’s backers. “Our office takes election integrity seriously and will continue to monitor any issues or concerns brought to our attention.”

Competition over Proposition 6 is fierce, with groups supporting the measure reporting campaign contributions of $39 million and groups opposing it reporting donations of $32 million.
