Petaluma police Wednesday arrested a man suspected of assaulting another man with a deadly weapon.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. outside of the Mary Isaak Center homeless shelter. A victim told officers that David Larkin Papazian, a 54-year-old transient, had struck him several times with a large piece of rebar during an argument.

Papazian fled prior to the officers’ arrival and was later located on an abandoned piece of land nearby, according to police. Several witnesses were interviewed and acknowledged Papazian was the aggressor during the incident, police said.

The victim had injuries on his lower leg and a laceration on his upper arm. The victim was transported to a local hospital and released after treatment. Papazian was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000.
