Academics will be in the competitive spotlight when Casa Grande, Petaluma and Maria Carrillo high schools compete Saturday in the North Bay Regional Academic Decathlon at Solano Community College in Vallejo.

The Casa Grande team, as always, is facing the pressure of maintaining history. The Gaucho students have won the county meet 31 consecutive years.

Some 20 teams will participate in the event. The decathlon has 10 events - math, science, literature, economics, music history, art history, essay, speech, interview and social science. This year’s theme is India. Art, music and social science will focus on India.

Each team must have three students with a GPA between 3.75 and 4.0; three students with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.74; and three students with a GPA below 3.0.
