There are a lot of new faces at Two Rock Elementary School this year, and not all of them are students.

Two Rock Principal Toni Beal reports that there are four new teachers on board. Alexandra Steffen will teach the new transitional kindergarten class. Amy Jones will teach a kindergarten class, Erin Fleming comes to Two Rock from the Old Adobe District to teach first grade and Maggie Dezendorf moves from Windsor to Two Rock to teach second grade.

Kim Lloyd has been added as a half-time teacher to work with the 10 special education students at Two Rock.

Beal is excited by the influx of new young students. The school’s first transitional kindergarten class will have 22 young students beginning their formal school education, while there are 22 students in kindergarten.

To better serve its school community, Two Rock has added a pre-school, operated by STARS. The new program opened with 20 students taking advantage of their extended time on campus.

Beal reports that the campus is full, with not one empty classroom.

Exciting news for the students is a new transitional kindergarten and kindergarten playground. The school’s playground for the older students has all new landscaping and a couple of new play structures.

The future looks even better as plans are made on the best way to use a $250,000, five-year Department of Defense grant to help Two Rock serve its students from the nearby Two Rock Coast Guard base. Beal said preliminary plans are to use the grant funds for counseling services and for after-school and summer programs.

“There a lot of exciting things happening at Two Rock,” the superintendent summarizes.
