The Two Rock Union School District has been awarded a 5-year, $250,000 grant through the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Program.

Two Rock Union School District is a single-school district that serves the students of parents working at the United States Coast Guard Training Center in west Petaluma. Sixty-five percent of the students at Two Rock come from the Coast Guard training center.

Two Rock Elementary School was one of 48 schools in the United States selected to receive the DoDEA grant.

The grant will support the development of Comprehensive Academic and Socio-Emotional Support systems (Project CASES). The goal of Project CASES is to improve the academic achievement of military-connected students by directly addressing the academic and socio-emotional challenges that they face.

“We are excited for this opportunity to develop programs specifically focused on serving the needs of our military families,” said Toni Beal, superintendent/principal of Two Rock Union School. “All students at our school will benefit greatly from these additional services.”

The first year of the 5-year grant is a planning year, which begins with a post award grant conference in Norfolk, Virginia and includes the development of partnerships with the United States Coast Guard Training Center along with additional training in Washington, DC in the summer.
