World War II veteran Richard Avilla dies at age 91

Richard M. Avilla served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

A native of Napa who was raised and educated in Petaluma, Avilla died on Oct. 15, 2014 at the age of 91.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Penngrove Social Firemen, Elks Lodge No. 901 of Petaluma, Nicasio Parlor No. 183 Native Sons of the Golden West, Petalma Moose Lodge No. 475, “Golden Roosters RV Club and Sons in Retirement No. 100.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Corda Avilla; daughter, Therese Avilla of Petaluma; grandchildren; sister, Betty Riboli of Petaluma. He was predecased by his siblings, Ed Avilla and Lorraine Bucholtz.

Memorial services were held earlier this week.

The family prefer memorials be made to Hospice of Petaluma or to the Penngrove Social Firemen.
