Ann Marie Halvorsen, a long time Petaluma nurse, died on Feb. 27 surrounded by family. She was 83.

She was born Sept. 19, 1932 in San Francisco, and lived in Petaluma for more than 50 years with her husband, Neil, and their son, Michael. Halvorsen served and cared for the community as a registered nurse at Petaluma General, Hillcrest and Crestview hospitals before moving into private care.

An avid sports fan, she especially enjoyed watching the Giants, 49ers and the Little League World Series. She also enjoyed going to the monthly dinner socials with her friends at Leisure Lake Village and tending to her garden. She is survived by her son, Michael Halvorsen, and his wife, Cathy; her brother, Stephen Holland III; grandchildren, Danielle Tetsell (Will), and Ryan Halvorsen (Stacey); and great-grandchildren, Addy, Quinn, Shaye, Jace and Evan. She is preceded in death by brother, Edward Holland, and her sister and best friend, Marian “Sis” Micelli.

According to the funeral notice on Parent-Sorensen Mortuary’s website, Halvorsen had a kind and loving heart, that she shared with everyone. She would greet all with her warm smile and a cheerful hello and would rarely end conversations without saying, “hugs and kisses all around.”

A Memorial Service was held on March 5.
