A slight majority of respondents to last week’s online poll indicated that they have received flu shots this season. The voting could have something to do with why public health officials report no marked flu outbreak has occurred. However, the flu season has just started and officials indicate that the current flu vaccine hasn’t been particularly effective.

Here were some of the comments:

--

“Considering the recent deaths due to H1N1 seems important for everyone to protect themselves against it by getting a vaccine.”

--

“I will never take a flu shot. The flu shots contain formaldehyde and thimersol - a compound containing mercury.

Sadly, our medical profession is in the pockets of the big pharmecutical companies, who only care about profit.

--

“The state has confirmed 45 flu-related deaths in adults under age 65 and is investigating another 50 deaths that were probably caused by the flu. Two of those deaths, including one in San Mateo County, were children. At least 17 under-65 adults have died from the flu in the Bay Area.”

--

“If no one got the flu shot, the country would be in a huge flu epidemic/pandemic.”
