When it comes to participating in the growing farm-to-table movement, most Petalumans support local as well as national retailers.

About 44 percent said they shop at farmers markets, farm stands and eat at “locavore” restaurants, and at at national supermarkets and chain restaurants. Twenty-eight percent prefer to shop at the less expensive national grocery stores and eat at more affordable chain restaurants, while 27 percent shop at farmers markets and eating at local restaurants.

Here are some of the comments.

“Farmer’s markets are overpriced, as are most if not all ‘local’ products. Bring the prices down and I’d gladly use more local products. As for locavore restaurants, yes, I try to.”

--

“Forage to table is more my style.”

--

“I feel that most farmer’s markets around here do not sell food that is raised in Sonoma County. I feel that our local farmers markets need to be locally produced. Therefore, I will shop at the grocery store. I feel it all comes from the same place, (San Francisco).”

--

“We grow most of our own. Supplement with farmers market items and shop G andG for the rest.”
