Respondents in an online Argus-Courier poll listed several Petaluma streets as being in the worst condition. Of the choices listed, McDowell Boulevard received the most votes with 35 percent followed by Petaluma Boulevard at 16 percent and East Washington Street at 11 percent.

Respondents also nominated several other streets as being the worst, including Maria Drive, D Street, Lakeville Street, Sonoma Mountain Parkway, Casa Grande Road and Webster Street.

Here are some of the comments:

--

“5th Street is horrible and an embarrassment for all who live here and all who visit our downtown area.”

--

“Sonoma Mountain Parkway, and my own street Maria Drive, which I refer to as Rubble Road. And it’s rapidly getting worse since so many cars are using Maria Drive instead of McDowell because of the insane traffic on McDowell. ”

--

“Casa Grande Road, northern end of Ely Boulevard, portions of Caulfield Lane and others are bad. The last few blocks of the northern end of McDowell are bad but most of it is okay.”

--

“D Street from Sunnyslope to Payran.”

--

“Eliminate side money to pet social projects that you justify as safety nets for the needy. This position is unsubstantiated and is not what the majority of your constituents want you to spend our hard-earned taxes on. Do not re-elect politicians.”

--

“Is the new strategy to just cover all of the roads with steel plates? We are like a third world country in Petaluma.”

--

“It is hard to pick just one.”

--

“Maria Drive, especially the 500-600 blocks. This is a major connector street that is potholed, cracked, jagged old asphalt. Every rain makes the potholes deeper and dangerously hard to see.”

--

“Some of the newest streets are the worst. Why doesn’t Petaluma use accepted standards for streets in adobe and take core samples to insure contractors follow them?”

--

“Sonoma Mountain Parkway. This is one of many reasons I won’t vote for a tax increase to fix roads, because the west side will get the priority to fix roads first.”

--

“Take a drive on Paula Lane between Bodega and West Street. I dare you. Then take your vehicle to get its wheels re-aligned, because it will need it. It is like the auto version of skiing moguls.”

--

“Webster Street. The street has a crown and it’s no jewel.”
