Most respondents in an online Argus-Courier poll said the state should not give the Highway 37 right-of-way to a private company to improve and charge a toll. About 71 percent said they did not want to give away the highway.

Here are some of the comments:

“Anything is better than Caltrans.”

--

“No! My taxes are supposed to pay for the roads, and other services supplied by government. Where is that money going if government can’t provides those services? I’ll tell you where; corruption and mismanagement. What’s supposed to stop this private company from deciding, somewhere down the line, that they want to charge every car $100 to drive on their road?”

--

“Find the money. Tax the rich more.”

--

“Chill. Enjoy the restored wetlands.”

--

“It's a state highway. Where do these goofy ideas come from?”

--

“I would be willing to pay a toll if wetlands are restored and protected.”

--

“Why not? Who else is going to do it? Sonoma County can’t keep up with what we have, and there’s still more people coming here. The grape industry should be growing food, not a product that is for “recreational use.” Greed in Sonoma County.”

--

“Widen it. This road is a disaster. Even those who turn off at Lakeville Road suffer from the traffic that piles up at the light. Make this a priority.”

--

“Yes, but it should be up to voters on rate increases.”
