A majority of respondents to a recent Argus-Courier online poll said they will vote for Prop. 63, which would ban large-capacity ammunition magazines and require background checks for most ammo purchases in the state. More than 60 percent said they would vote “yes” on the measure on the November ballot.

Here are some comments:

“Absolutely not. It is completely absurd that people believe more gun control will actually decrease crime rate. Criminals will always find ways to obtain guns illegally, and all weapons for that matter. The focus of these mass shootings needs to be on mental health, not on a gun control.”

--

“If I follow the law and register my guns and ammo, how will this amendment to our California Constitution pertain to the criminals and gangsters who choose not to follow the law?”

--

“It is another unreasonable infringement on law abiding hunters and those who target shoot. I will oppose the measure. Another gun control being sought by those who don’t know anything about the legal and proper use of firearms for sports and other legal activity.”

--

“Large-capacity magazines are already banned and ammunition purchase would then become a black market item for the non law abiding, followed by a limit to what can be bought. Law abiding citizens do not need yet more restrictions.”

--

“Of course I will vote to help prevent gun terrorism in California.”

--

“There are enough laws on the books for responsible gun ownership. There needs to be enforcement of these laws on criminals, not responsible gun owners. It’s the criminals committing these crimes that need to be punished severely, none of this slap on the hand garbage. We don’t need more government control California it is becoming a communist state, if not already.”

--

“This is another example of the growing erosion of our Second Amendment rights to own firearms. I wish the politicians would have more respect for the Constitution, and we already have enough firearm-related laws as it is. The politicians should devote their energy to infrastructure and other issues instead. The highways and roads are in appalling condition.”

--

“Yes, even though the gun aficionados assure me that guns and bullets don’t kill people.”

--

“Why don’t we enforce existing laws? What part of the Second Amendment don’t people get? Our Constitution is non-negotiable and trying to change it by way of propositions is just wrong. With as much corruption in our government, every person should consider buying a gun and as much ammunition they can get their hands on.”

--

“This will not prevent gun violence.”
