A majority of respondents in an online Argus-Courier poll said that Petaluma should make fixing the city’s streets the top priority for the new year. More than 60 percent said street repair should be job number one in 2017. Nearly 20 percent said dredging the Petaluma River should be the highest priority

Here are some comments:

“Fix the streets already and build our new firehouse. You already did the ground breaking four years ago.”

“Petaluma’s top priority for 2017 should be to enact a citywide building moratorium because our water allotment has been frozen for over 10 years. But since we have the same old faces on the council, all that will happen is more development, meaning less water for us already here.”

“The streets are in deplorable condition, and getting even worse after the recent rains. All the potholes and crumbling pavement can damage tires, rims and front-end alignment, all adding to the expense of owning a vehicle and driving in Petaluma.”

“With all the new development along the waterfront, dredging the river needs to take priority once again.”

“Stop building houses. The traffic is horrible and gets worse every day. And what about the next drought?”

“Improve traffic flows. Build crosstown connectors at Ranier and Caulfield. While Ranier should be in the works, south-west-siders need another way to get across the river, highway and train tracks versus the current bottleneck at the D Street bridge.”

“Crime is increasing and it would be a good time to focus on crime prevention and get police involved, and of course fix our roads. They are deplorable.”

“Lower taxes, stop building and make a declaration that City of Petaluma and its citizens no longer support the SMART train.”
