A majority of respondents in an online Argus-Courier poll said that they would purchase an electric vehicle if they could receive state and federal incentives. More than 60 percent said they would consider driving an electric vehicle.

Here are some comments:

“Even without rebates, the cost of these vehicles are dropping enough for a middle class family to afford.”

“Only if it make the use of an electric car economically feasible. Has anybody looked at the carbon footprint to produce the electricity to power the car?”

“The PG&E bill will go up. I don’t need the hassle of locating electric charge station and waiting so long to get a charge. If they are near a shopping center, I would spend time purchasing unneeded stuff so in the end no savings.”

“The people who can afford an electric vehicle receive rebates from hardworking taxpayers who can’t afford electric vehicles in part due to high taxes.”

“I like to take driving trips and would not be able to go anywhere without charging my car. I don’t want to have to stop every 40-50 miles to charge my car, I would never get anywhere.”

“Government only spends our money and this is not an appropriate use. We already see crumbling roads partially due to lower gas sales, it will only get worse and rather than subsidizing electric car owners we need those dollars to be spent on roads.”

“Currently available petroleum-?powered vehicles are so efficient, the need for electric-powered vehicles is not that great. Besides, you know those lithium-ion batteries in laptops and now e-cig units that tend to explode when they are overcharged? They connect together thousands of them to power current electric cars.”

“I would if the kind of vehicle I want is all-electric, otherwise no.”
