The vast majority of respondents in an online Argus-Courier poll said that local leaders should resist the harshest policies of the Trump administration. Nearly 90 percent of the more than 700 respondents said local officials should not embrace such policies.

Here are some comments:

“We must stand up and defend civil rights, human rights and women’s rights in the face of this fascist agenda of the Trump gang.”

“Trump’s policies are unconstitutional, un-American, destabilizing and immoral. We are better than this.”

“Trump is violating the values of our democracy and the rights, health and well being of our citizens. He is unfit to serve as president and he is surrounding himself and filling the government with those equally unfit.”

“This man is dangerous to all citizens and makes errors in judgment that can change our country into a scary place. He should be resisted on all fronts for the good of the country.”

“As a human being, former immigrant, now a citizen, I will resist the inhumane and immoral directives of Trump and his henchman. I was born in 1945, and as a Jew, I will never forget.”

“As the Republicans in Congress did to President Obama, we should resist all that they propose.”

“Due to federalism, I do not see Petaluma or Sonoma County having any real say in the matter. They can vocalize their disdain to their representatives, but that is about it.”

“Government only works well when we try to find things we agree with and work to accomplish them. None of us are going to agree with everything that a politician of any party proposes, but we can put our energy behind those things we do.”

“He is a fascist who is turning our country into an autocracy. He only believes what he wants to hear. He doesn’t care about objective truths. I am horrified by the policies he’s put forward.”
