A slight majority of respondents to an online Argus-Courier poll said they agree with the Trump administration’s ban on travel for citizens of six predominantly Muslim nations. Just over 50 percent said they agreed with the recently enacted travel ban.

Here are some comments:

“Absolutely, I agree with Trump’s ban and he has the power under the Constitution to do so. I don’t recall the left flipping out when Obama stopped processing Iraqi visas for six months in 2011 or when Obama signed into law in December 2015 the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act and later amended to restrict visa waivers for the same seven Muslim-majority countries - Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen - that Trump is.”

“Absolutely not. It’s not only unconstitutional and completely inconsistent with what this nation stands for, it’s just plain and simple racism and religious bigotry.”

“Average Americans can’t know much about this subject. They don’t have the data. We have to rely on our elected officials to make the best decision. The ban is only for 120 days, so even if it is not a good decision, it will soon go away.”

“Banning no, but they should be vetted before they are allowed into the country.”

“I believe this ban is unconstitutional, xenophobic and racist. It also may have adverse results around the world regarding how the rest of the world perceives the United States, and could encourage terrorism more than prevent it. ”

“It would be dumb to allow known supporters of terrorism access. The list for vetting really ought to be expanded.”

“If the three most populous Muslim nations on earth are not on the list, how can it be called a “Muslim ban?””

“I agree with a ban on travel to the U.S. for residents of any nations with high conflict, probable terrorist ties and clearly stated disdain for the lives/lifestyles of the citizens of the United States of America. The risk is too great. America first.”

“Fascism on the rise.”
