Trojans’ Scranton track Athlete of the Year

Already chosen the best basketball player in her league, Petaluma High’s Allison Scranton has added an even bigger honor in a totally different sport. Scranton, with still a senior year ahead, has been named the Redwood Empire girl track Athlete of the Year on the Press Democrat’s All-Empire team.

Her junior teammate, pole vaulter Natalie Gilmore, was also named to the All-Empire first team along with Casa Grande’s sophomore 800 runner Ileana Moon.

Another Casa Grande 800 runner, sophomore Adriana Barich was named to the second team, along with St. Vincent’s junior jumper Olivia DeGraca.

Casa Grande had three athletes named to the All-Empire first team for the boys - senior pole vaulter Edgar Irizarry, thrower Caleb Lundquist and distance runner Nicholas Rauch.

Petaluma pole vaulter Dan Curren, a junior, and sophomore hurdler Ty Pearson were picked to the second team.

Scranton, who won both discus and shot put in the league meet for the Sonoma County League girls, advanced to the state meet where she had a personal best of 141 feet, 3 inches in the discus, finishing sixth. She narrowly missed qualifying for state in the shot, finishing seventh with a throw of 37-7.
