The long-running Little League All-Star saga ended for Petaluma National League’s 9-10-year-olds when they were beaten twice in two days in the Northern California Championship Tournament.

Traveling out of town for the first time in All-Star play, the Nationals found no gold in the Sierras, losing their opener to Serra from Sunnyvale, 10-8, and then being eliminated by Canyon Creek from San Ramon, 8-3.

The defeats brought to an end a strong run that saw the Nationals win 10 straight games and two tournament titles before it all finally ended last weekend.

The Nationals lost their second game in the District 35 Tournament at Lucchesi Park to Petaluma American, 13-3, and then started hitting their way back. Back-to-back wins over the Americans, 12-7, and 12-1, gave the Nationals the District 35 championship and advanced them to the Section 1 Tournament.

It wasn’t a breeze, but the Nationals battled their way undefeated through that tournament, also hosted by Petaluma American at Lucchesi Park.

After receiving a first round bye, the Nationals defeated Sonoma, 10-1, and then had two tough battles with Ross Valley, but prevailed in both, 9-7, and 8-6.

That put them on the road out of Petaluma for the first time, but it also brought them to the end of the line in the Northern California Championship Tournament.

Members of the Petaluma National Little League 9-10-year-old All-Star team are Anthony Chlewboski, Spencer Norman, Nick Kelly, David Cook, Enzo Scaccalosi, Garrett Lewis, Liam Gottschall, Matthew Baumsteiger, Dylan Dunphy, Mark Wolbert, Romy Nickel, Case Pectol and Wyatt Davis.

The team was managed by Brett Norman with help from coaches Coby Cook and Mike Gottschall.
