The Petaluma Leghorn 14-under American Legion team enjoyed a successful spring, culminating in a strong run in the American Legion Central Valley Athletic League playoffs.

The league has eight teams divided in two divisions and finishes with playoffs involving the top two teams in each division.

The Leghorns advanced to the playoff championships, going 3-0, the only undefeated team in the playoff preliminaries. The Chico Rice, beaten by the Leghorns earlier in the playoffs, battled back to play the Petalumans in the championship game.

In a tense thriller, Chico edged the Leghorns, 1-0.

The final loss did nothing to detract from the Leghorns’ exceptional 24-6 season.

Members of the Leghorns were Joe Lampe, Nick Siembieda, Connor Klemenok, Sam Jacobs, Cameron Downing, Garrett Esponda, Jack Gallagher, Owen Hill, Nate Busse, Nick Quarles and Cole Shimek.

The team was coached by Mike Shimek, Joe Lampe, Dave Siembieda, Gary Downing and Spencer Finkbohner.
