Steal Breeze players from the Petaluma Girls Softball Association gave their fathers a special treat by winning two of the four brackets in their annual Father’s Day Tournament.

When the dust had settled for the last time on three full days of outstanding softball play, Steal Breeze 8-and-under and 10-and-under teams had both claimed tournament titles. The Steal Breeze 12-and-under team reached the semifinals and the 14-and-unders played in the elimination bracket.

8-and-unders

The Petaluma Steal Breeze U-8 team started its summer competitive season with a hometown championship, winning the Father’s Day Tournament at Leghorns Park. It was their first tournament of the season.

Steal Breeze played six games, outscoring its opponents 24-6. The Breeze played a competitive brand of softball, getting strong pitching, solid defense and aggressive hitting and base running.

Steal Breeze gave up an average of one run per game over the six games. Pitchers Marissa Brody, Lauren Reposa, and Brittany Casper shared the mound throughout the weekend, putting the team in a good spot to win games. Valerie Farr, Maeve Braodhead, Christina Bogart and Ruby Frederick contributed defensively, making key outs or limiting the opponents to one base at a time. Isabella Badaglia played shortstop and was the vocal leader of the infield, constantly communicating with her teammates about situations. Hannah Edwards, Mya Gonzalez, Lauren Clark and Haley Learn did an effective job with the bats, working counts and putting pressure on the opposing pitcher and defense. Each girl played important and different roles each game.

In the elimination round on Sunday, Steal Breeze defeated the Santa Rosa Swarm, 8-0, then won a tightly contested semifinal game against the Santa Rosa Rug Rats, 2-0.

It appeared the top two teams earned their way to the early evening championship game on Sunday, with the Petalumans defeating the Rohnert Park Rebels, 5-1.

With the bats, Steal Breeze chipped away at the Rebels, getting runners home in key situations. Along with the clutch hitting, Steal Breeze got outstanding performances from all three pitchers during the six-inning championship game. Again, the Steal Breeze defenders kept their composure, limiting the damage when Rohnert Park threatened a rally. Steal Breeze won in front of a large and spirited crowd at Leghorn’s Park. The Petaluma Steal Breeze fathers and grandfathers got their favorite gift of the day when the final out of the tournament was recorded.

10-and-unders

The Steal Breeze 10-and-unders, coached by Kevin Carlomagno, slugged their way to the championship of their bracket with a top-to-bottom batting attack.

In pool play, the Petalumans handled the Santa Rosa Hackers, 11-0; won a 4-0 thriller over the Santa Rosa Stompers and blanked the Rohnert Park Rebels, 8-0,

In bracket play, they defeated their sister Steal Breeze team coached by Amanda Fannin, 17-5.

Facing the Rohnert Park Rebels in the semifinals, the Steal Breeze exploded for eight runs in the third inning to romp to a 15-3 win. Petaluma’s big attack was led by Maddie DelaMontanya and Karlie Bernice, with three hits each, and Jamie McGaughey, with a home run.

There was more slugging in the championship game, an 11-3 win over the Stompers in a game that was called after four innings.

The Steal Breeze scored in each of its swings, but really broke things open with a six-run fourth inning.

Sophie Skubic, McGaughey, and Macey Shorn each had two hits to lead the Steal Breeze assault, with McGaughey slugging a double and a triple.

The Petalumans kept the pressure on their opposing team the entire tournament with aggressive base running.

Jamie McGaughey pitched a strong game for the Breeze.

Members of the championship team were Katie Bernice, Zoe Campana, Kylie Carlomagno, Elizabeth Chamberlain, Maddie DelaMontanya, Sara Greiner, Cassandra Llaveris, Jamie McGaughey, Mallory O’Keefe, Macey Shern, Sophia Skubic, Casey Sullivan and Julian Thomsen.

The second Steal Breeze 10-and-under team, coached by Fannin, lost all three of its Pool games to Sonoma Revolution, 17-5; Novato Heat, 10-8; and Windsor Wicked, ?13-0, before dropping its first bracket game to its sister team.

Members of the team include Brooke Baxman, Kaden Brody, Lola Ewing, Madelyn Fannin, Elyanna Gonzalez, Ewing Lola, Kenna Lowry, Lucy Nevin, Samantha Norton, Hollie Pardini, Roxy Pectol, Elizabeth Stiveson and Lauren Wolff.

12-and-unders

The Steal Breeze 12-and-under team, coached by Sean O’Keefe, played its way into the semifinals before being beaten by the Santa Rosa Hackers, 10-3. The Petaluma girls won their first bracket game over the Windsor Wicked, 12-1, after winning two of three pool-play games. The Breeze defeated the Sonoma Revolution, 13-6, lost to the Rohnert Park Rebels, 8-1, and topped the Marin Tremors, 4-1.

Members of the team are Abby Carvajal, Abigail Delaney, Ava Luiz, Katie Machado, Teresa McGaughey, Mandy O’Keefe, Morgan Robertson, Sarah Sarlatte, Sidney Seaman, Kanryn Sobel, Emma Weiand, Kaleigh Weiand and Katrina Yardly.

The Steal Breeze team, coached by Tony Bendik, lost all three of its pool-play games, falling to the Santa Rosa Hackers, 13-0; the Rohnert Park Rebels Teal, 3-1; and the Windsor Wicked, 8-3. It was then eliminated from bracket play by the Rohnert Park Rebels Black, 8-0.

The team includes Lauren Beels, Meghan Bendik, Ashley Casper, Emily Hart, Emma Hughes, Myranda Lynch, Logan Pomi, Brianna Ruiz, Alyssa Smith, Rachel Spaletta, Skylar Thorpe and Lindsey Warner.

14-and-unders

The Steal Breeze 14-under team, managed by Casey Aiwohi, reached the bracket semifinals, defeating the Marin Tremors, 9-4, in its first bracket game after going 1-1-1 in pool play. The Breeze lost its first pool game to the Santa Rosa Hackers, before bouncing back to defeat the Santa Rosa Rug Rats, 12-3, and then tying the Novato Heat 7-7.

The end came in its second bracket game with a 12-0 loss to the Santa Rosa Wicked.
