What started out as 40 teams playing in three divisions has been paired down to three teams as Little League All-Star play moves from the District to the Section level. Two of those three teams are from Petaluma.

The Petaluma Valley Major League (11-12-year-olds) and Petaluma National 10-11-year-old teams both won District 35 championships and will begin Section 1 play this week.

The Petaluma Valley Major League team starts Section play Saturday at 11 a.m. at Will C. Wood School, 420 Grand Ave. in Alameda. The Valley team will open against District 64 champion Dixon Little League.

The Petaluma national 10-11-year-old District 35 champions stay close to home, playing at the Petaluma American League home at Lucchesi Park. The Nationals will start Sunday at 11 a.m. against the winner of a Saturday game between District 4 champion Lafayette and District 64 winner Dixon.

In the only Section Tournament not involving a Petaluma team, 9-10-year-old District 35 champion Rincon Valley was to play Wednesday night in St. Helena.
