Another tournament title for Michelle Larsen

Petaluma High School’s Michelle Larsen won her second tournament title in a row, taking first place in the heavyweight division in the Julie Gonzales Invitational in Vallejo. Larsen recorded two pins for her championship.

The Petaluma senior is ranked No. 2 in the North Coast Section for her weight class.

Her teammate, Cindy Diaz, wrestling at 103 pounds, was 3-2 for second place. Sarah Markovich took a third place. Alyssa Archer was 2-3 in the competition.

In the Windsor King of the Mat Tournament, Jack Reynolds at 122 pounds was sixth and heavyweight Daniel Pacheco placed eighth.

Dual meet win

Petaluma dominated Piner in a Sonoma County League dual match, 76-9.

Wrestling on their home mat, Colton Prieto at 140 pounds, Anthony Vitali at 147 points and Eric Machado at 172 pounds all won by pin for the Trojans.

Connor Pederson at 108 pounds, Zac Coello at 113 pounds, Jack Reynolds at 128 pounds and Liam O’Neill at 134 pounds were decision winners.

Jacob Bettencourt at 122 pounds, Curtis Goughnor at 162 pounds, Sterling Prieto at 184 pounds and Eric Coats at 197 pounds accepted forfeit wins.

Newman tops Casa

Cardinal Newman had too much strength for Casa Grande in the lightweight classes, defeating the Gauchos, 39-18, in a North Bay match wrestled on the Newman mat in Santa Rosa.

Cardinal Newman swept the weight classes from 106 to 126 pounds to make the difference in the team score.

Lorenzo Zuniga had one of the best efforts of the night for the Gauchos, pinning Cardinal Newman’s Ciaran McCormick in the first period.

Matt Beck, at 145 pounds, dominated Newman’s Casey Frazier, 10-4.

In one of the best and most competitive matches of the evening, Casa’s Jacob Black decisioned Newman’s Jaxon Apodaca, 9-7.

Nick Jensen won by forfeit at 195 pounds.
