Windsor’s boys basketball team was too good for Casa Grande’s Gauchos Thursday night in Casa’s Coach Ed Iacopi Gymnasium. End of story.

Final score was 63-46, which is pretty fair indication of the difference between the two teams.

The win was the ?11th straight without a ?loss in North Bay League play for the Jaguars who are 20-3 overall. Casa Grande, with the loss, drops to 4-7 in league and 8-15 overall.

Casa’s Gauchos played hard, but once they hit their stride, the Jaguars pretty much dominated all aspects of the game, taking the ball to the hoop almost at will, controlling both backboards and keeping the ball out of the hands of Casa’s two top scoring threats, center JJ Anderson and guard Robbie Sheldon.

Casa had a brief glimpse of hope early when it was able to get the ball inside to Anderson, who hit four quick shots to give the Gauchos a brief, 8-6 lead. Windsor, blessed with a bevy of well-drilled defenders, quickly adjusted, and the Casa leader had just one more basket the entire game.

Also early on, Windsor couldn’t find driving ?lanes and settled for the long ball, using 3-point bombs by the athletic Gabe Knight for a 13-12 first quarter lead.

Windsor discovered the key to unlocking the Casa inner defense in the second quarter, and began to drive to the hoop. Senior Peter Canady took control of the game for the Jaguars. Canady drained a 3 and ended a break off a steal with an emphatic dunk in the second period. He continued his assault after the break, scoring 13 points in the third quarter. He finished with a game-high 25 points to complement 16 by Knight.

Anderson’s 10 led the Gauchos, with Vikram Singh, off the bench, scoring seven and Sheldon six on a pair of 3-point connections.

Highlight for the Gauchos came late in the game, when AJ Cole, Patrick Brodsky and Brendan Kiernan came tearing off the bench to do battle with intensity and determination. Cole was particularly impressive as he drove, dived on the floor and generally brought excitement to a lost cause.

Windsor beat a short-handed Casa Grande junior varsity, 63-52, in the preliminary game.

Casa Grande led, 29-22, at the half, but Windsor dominated the third period with a 23-point explosion and the Gauchos could never quite catch up.

Josh Jovick had a huge game for the Gauchos with 28 points. Gabe Sullivvan scored 10.

Win at the Ranch

Earlier in the week, Casa Grande struggled but manged to hold off league winless Rancho Cotate, 48-42.

The Gauchos had a hard time finding the basket against the Cougars, who have won just one game all season.

Anderson proved to be the difference for the Gauchos, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Robbie Sheldon and Jordan Smith each scored nine points.

The Cougars stayed in the game on 3-point hits. Alex Wong scored 15 points, hitting three long-distance shots, a total matched by Demetri Morton, who ended with 11 points.

Loss at Ukiah

Monday the Gauchos recovered from a slow start, but couldn’t finish, losing at Ukiah, 50-44.

Casa trailed at the end of a cold first half, 25-15, but came back strong only to finish a bit short.

Tommy Buickerood led the Gauchos with 10 points, with Robbie Sheldon adding eight.

Sammy Mora led Ukiah with 15.
