SPRING SPORTS: Tough losses for Casa boys tennis

Maria Carillo swept the top three singles matches and got the one doubles victory it needed for a 4-3 win over Casa Grande in a key North Bay League match played at Casa Grande.

Jim Kluce at No. 1 singles won a battle over Nico Carballal, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; Dat Tran at No. 2 took Shreyas Kompali, 6-1, 6-0; and Spencer deRecut defeated Jason Coldblatt, 6-1, 6-4 to give Maria Carrillo singles dominance. Casa Grande’s Mason Chiang conquered Raohul Shah, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

Casa Grande’s Ram Goli teammed with Manas Varma and Spencer Battaglia joined Sai Nadendia to win singles matches, but Maria Carrillo’s Jacob Saunders paired with Vishrnu Pillai to give Maria Carrillo the team win.

There was a better outcome for the Gauchos at Santa Rosa, where they won, 7-0. Caballal, Kompali and Goli were singles winners for Casa. The No. 4 singles was a forfeit to the Gauchos.

Kevin Zamanzadehn matched with Manas Varma; Sam Fuller joined Jose Ochoa and Chiang combined with Glodbatt for doubles wins.

Unfortunately for the Gauchos, there was more heartbreak in a 4-3 loss to Montgomery.

The teams split singles play with Carballal and Goldblatt winning for the Gauchos, but Montgomery won two of the three doubles matches for the team win.

Varma and Battaglia won at No.2 doubles for Casa, but Montgomery took the other two matches.

There were several outstanding matches. Casa’s Goli at No. 3 singles battled Montgomery’s Charlie Johnson to three sets, losing 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and Goldblatt beat Montgomery’s Bastien Escouboue,, 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 at No. 4. At No. 3 doubles, Casa’s Fuller and Nadendia lost to the Vikings” Mason Krug and Bryden Long, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Boys golf

Petaluma had too much balance for El Molino in a Sonoma County League match played a Rooster Run.

Shannon Stoll and Charlie Winter led the Trojans with matching 47s.

James O’Hanlon had a 52, Jesse Brouillette a 54 and Justin Solozarno a 55.

El Molino’s Trevor Schaap took medalist honors with a 43.

Petaluma also took care of Sonoma Valley, 244-274 in a match played at the Sonoma Golf Club.

O’Hanlon led the Trojans with a 44 for medalist honors, Winter shot a 47, Stoll a 50, Brouillette a 50 and Adam Bernardi a 53. St. Vincent continued to dominate the Coastal Mountain Conference South, winning a league event at Hidden Valley Lake.

The top three scorers were all Mustangs, with Alex Graham shooing a 73, Jack Hood a 77 and Justin Peck a 78. Max Kleimecke had an 85 and Trenton Starrett an 86,

As a team, St. Vincent shot 311 to 393 for Middletown and 474 for St. Helena.
